The mantrap contractor visited the central office on August 10 to assess the facility for planning. The construction project for various walls to create new rooms at the central office is well underway. At the August 3rd Board Meeting, the Lincoln County Board approved three additional days for Duval staff to move and prepare their rooms for students. The staff has been active in the building getting ready for students. A large percentage of necessary furniture has been moved from Duval to the Hamlin and Central Office sites to accommodate student needs.
Lincoln County Schools is committed to turning this challenge into an opportunity for our students, staff, and community. Maintenance plans to begin moving chairs and student desks from Duval to the Central Office beginning Monday, August 2. Patton, the Adult dating Hamlin West Virginia Principal, will continue to provide opportunities for individuals to access the Duval facility should they need to.
The Fire Marshal is allowing up to 12 individuals at a time to access the building. We will be adding a mantrap to the main entrance of the Central Office. This will be an added layer of security that will require visitors to be buzzed into the building. We are securing four foot containers for additional storage on site at the Central Office. Surveillance cameras on site are still active.
Additionally, local law enforcement has been gracious enough to elevate their patrols of the property. We hope these efforts deter theft, trespassing and vandalism. Duval Relocation Update - The following information is subject to change.

In the coming days, Duval staff will be asked to identify instructional items from their classrooms they wish to be transported to Hamlin and the Board Office. Additionally, we are assessing the of workers necessary to do the moving.
Obviously, sports that use the gymnasium will have to find alternative sites for practices and games. We have begun assessing this piece. I have made it very clear to our Relocation Team at the central office that this is not a crisis. This is a hardship. There is a ificant distance between the two. While not ideal, we have a task in front of us. We will focus on the things we can control and practice fortitude in developing solutions. Our one priority is to have instruction available to all Duval students on the first day of school regardless of location. This lone item is paramount above all else. We navigated re-entry successfully last fall. I am confident that we will do so again under these less difficult circumstances.
